Serious traffic crash, Macgregor

Police are investigating after a 12-year-old child was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop for police in Macgregor this afternoon.

Officers from Highway Patrol were conducting registration checks on Kessels Road when they observed an unregistered Commodore travel past at 12.05 pm.

Police activated lights and moved into traffic in an attempt to reach the vehicle and conduct an intercept.

It is alleged the vehicle was then driven away from officers at speed before it travelled through a red light at the intersection of Mains Road and Cosmic Street and struck a 12-year-old male crossing the road, who suffered a head injury.

The male driver then exited the car and fled the scene through a nearby shopping centre.

A crime scene has been declared and investigations are ongoing into the whereabouts of the driver of the Commodore, described as a male aged in his 20s.

The boy was transported to Queensland Childrens Hospital with multiple fractures in a serious but stable condition.

The Ethical Standards Command has been advised.
