PSPA declared

UPDATE – 12.05pm 01/11/2020 – Police have taken a man into custody and relaxed the perimeter of the PSPA declaration to Kingsley, Kinmouth and Bell street. Further information will be provided later this afternoon.

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to an incident taking place in Walloon.

At 2.50am today (November 1) police attended a rural property on Kingsley Street in relation to a welfare check on a man.

Upon arrival, police attempted to locate a man who they believed to be in a shed by himself.

After negotiations an emergency situation was declared at 8.45am after the man, who is armed, fired several shots, including at police.

The area declared includes, Haigslea Amberley Road, Bell Street, Kingsley Street, Kinmouth Street, Station Lane, Short Street and Stocks Lane.

Specialist police are in attendance and police continue to attempt to negotiate with the man.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area. Traffic diversions are in place.
